Treat Tuesdays – Chocolate Spiders

Chocolate Spiders:

I love anything chocolate! I first had these when I went on a road trip with a friend of mine in college. I don’t know how I survived this long without it! Super easy, no bake, chocolatey goodness! I think they go by various names like haystacks or spiders, I prefer to call them spiders.

The most time-consuming part of this recipe is waiting for the treats to cool and harden in the fridge before eating it. I am not patient, especially when it comes to treats!

First, melt 1 bag of chocolate and 1 bag of butterscotch chips together. You can either lazy-mom it and melt in the microwave, or over a stove top. I usually add another 1/2 bag of chocolate chips and a scoop of butter to make it creamy.

Once the chips are melted, immediately add the dry roasted peanuts and a half bag of the crunchy chow mein noodles. You can get these at any grocery store. Mix it all together until the melted chocolate and butterscotch chips cover the peanuts and noodles.

Take a cookie sheet and line it with wax paper and make blobs on the sheet. Make between 9-12 blobs per sheet depending on how large or small you would like them. Then place it in the fridge until the treats harden. Then enjoy! Store the remainder spiders (if there are any left) in an air tight container, remaining in the fridge. I can easily eat 4-5 in one sitting. I justify this by slamming 2 calorie free Red Bulls. Totally cancels each other out that way. Right? Right.

Everything I make is pretty simple. I don’t like things that take too much time. I am not overly concerned about things being super healthy either. I think treats every now and then (or everyday for myself) can enrich the soul. If you are concerned about being healthy, make sure you eat enough veggies, then indulge in something delicious!

Ingredients:

* 1 bag semi-sweet chocolate chips

* 1 bag butterscotch chips (or peanut butter chips if you are allergic to Yellow 5 or Yellow 6, and yes this is apparently a real allergy).

* 1 small can of dry roasted peanuts

* 1/2 bag chow mein noodles.
